These adventure-ready special editions offer exclusive styling and upgraded amenities that are designed to make your life off the road even better. The Trail Edition began as the precursor to the Toyota Racing Development (TRD) branch, and was first available on 4Runner models as the Trail Edition. After renaming the branch to TRD and expanding the trim level to nearly every Toyota vehicle, the Trail Edition nameplate is back beginning with the 2021 model year.
Currently, the Trail Special Edition is available for the 2021 Tacoma, Tundra, and 4Runner. All of these vehicles are based on the SR5 model, with the Tacoma being an SR5 double cab, the Tundra being an SR5 crew cab, and the 4Runner offering a body-on-frame construction. These hearty vehicles are up for whatever your adventures throw at them.
The offerings for each Trail Edition vary by model, but all three share black badging, black upholstery with tan stitching, and all-weather floor mats. The Tacoma Trail Edition offers 18-inch TRD off-road wheels with Kevlar all-terrain tires, a Tacoma Limited grilled, a 115-volt power outlet in the bed, and a lockable storage bin on the driver’s side that doubles as a cooler. The Tundra Trail Edition features a 1794 Edition grille, color-keyed surround sound, and the same cooler/lockbox as the Tacoma. The 2021 4Runner Trail Edition comes with a Yakima® LoadWarrior cargo basket, a custom removable 40-quart cooler with a sliding trunk tray, and 17-inch dark gray TRD wheels.

The 40-quart cooler in the Trail Edition 4Runner can be color-matched if you opt for Cement or Army Green paint on the exterior of the car, and will come in Cement if you choose Midnight Black or Super White as your exterior color.
