2021 Toyota Tundra vs. 2021 Silverado 1500

Though the pickup truck segment isn’t as crowded as the SUV segment, the competition is even fiercer because there are few competitors. With just a handful of full-size pickups to choose from, finding the one that meets your needs is even more important. If you’re choosing between the 2021 Toyota Tundra and 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, check out how they stack up with size, features, and capabilities.

Interior Comparison

Both of these trucks offer two cab sizes; the Tundra has a Crew Cab and a CrewMax cab while the Silverado 1500 has a Regular Cab and a Crew Cab. With the Tundra, you get two rows in either cab configuration, which isn’t the case in the Silverado’s Regular Cab. The standard second row of seats in the Tundra also means that you’ll automatically get two full sets of LATCH tethers – even if you opt for the most basic Tundra model. Also included in every Tundra trim is a touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay®, Amazon Alexa, satellite radio, three USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hotspot; the Silverado only comes standard with the touchscreen and smartphone connectivity features.

Performance and Capabilities Comparison

The 2021 Toyota Tundra operates with a 5.7-liter V8 engine that makes 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque while the 2021 Silverado 1500 base engine is a 355-horsepower V6 engine. All Tundra models can tow up to 10,200 pounds while most Silverado models can only tow about 9,000 pounds. Both trucks offer packages to increase off-roading ability.

Safety Features Comparison

Toyota has become well known for its safety suite, Toyota Safety Sense, which comes standard on the 2021 Tundra. On the other hand, Chevrolet is better known for its lack of standard safety features. These differences play out in the two competitor trucks as the Tundra comes standard with:

  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Pedestrian Detection
  • Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Automatic High Beams
  • Adaptive Cruise Control

The 2021 Silverado 1500, on the other hand, only comes standard with a Teen Driver setting.
