2021 Tacoma and 2021 Colorado Compared Near Hoover, AL

2021 Toyota Tacoma vs 2021 Chevrolet Colorado

2021 Tacoma and 2021 Colorado

From the everyday drive to demanding towing and hauling duties, the truck you drive should be able to handle whatever comes your way. The Toyota Tacoma and Chevrolet Colorado are built with capable engines and work-focused quality, but which pickup truck can do everything you need it to? Let’s park these pickups side by side to determine a winner.

Performance

Both Toyota and Chevy have equipped their trucks with lively powertrains, but there’s more to a truck’s capability than its engine output. The Tacoma offers compliant handling to make city and highway driving easy, and you can expect a smooth ride whenever you hit the road. Toyota’s truck also excels when you leave the streets in the rearview, and the Tacoma is capable of some impressive off-roading when duty calls. To optimize the pickup for rough terrain, Toyota offers the Tacoma TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro trim levels, which feature performance-tuned suspension, a locking rear differential, and other terrain-conquering gear. Even though the Colorado behaves well on the pavement, it hasn’t impressed reviewers with its off-roading builds as the Tacoma has. The 2021 Tacoma’s impressive hauling ability also outshines the Colorado’s maximum payload capacity.

Technology

You’ll find a 7-inch touchscreen in either truck, but the user experience and tech options vary between the two models. The Tacoma and Colorado both feature smartphone connectivity for Apple and Android devices as standard issue, but only the Toyota comes standard with Amazon Alexa and voice recognition. The Tacoma’s list of standard safety features also stretches farther than its competitor’s, with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and pedestrian detection all ready to go on the base trim.

Cab Quality

Each truck is available in four- and five-seater cabs. The front row of either pickup should provide sufficient passenger space, but the Colorado’s rear seats might be too snug for some crew members, even if you opt for its largest cab option. The Tacoma’s roomy cab is prepared with quality materials and durable surfaces to endure the demands of a dedicated work truck, while the Colorado’s abundance of hard plastic surfaces hasn’t inspired much praise from critics.
