2017 Tundra vs Ford F150 Comparison Birmingham AL
2017 Toyota Tundra vs. 2017 Ford F-150: Clash of the Full-Size Truck Titans
The full-size truck market has historically been one of the most competitive segments in the automotive industry. Ford, Chevy, RAM and Toyota all offer full-size trucks that consistently win awards and garner praise from automotive critics. In this space, we’re going to take an in-depth look at two of these trucks: the 2017 Toyota Tundra and the 2017 Ford F-150. Ford has claimed the “best-selling full-size truck in America” crown for the last several years, but the competition is consistently gaining on them. To shed more light on this situation, we compared the Tundra and the F-150 head to head. The results of this comparison may surprise you. They also help identify who offers the best overall value when it comes to full-size pickup trucks.
2017 Toyota Tundra vs. 2017 Ford F-150: Exterior Comparison
For our comparison purposes, we took a look at a Double Cab Tundra and a Supercab configuration of the F-150. The 2017 Tundra stands a little taller than the F-150, while the F-150 is a bit longer than the Tundra. Both trucks measure in at the exact same width. What does all this mean? Not a lot. There’s no real discernible advantage to either when it comes to comparing the outside of the trucks. Both models are due for a significant style refresh for the 2018 model year. In the meantime, neither truck’s current style seems outdated in the least. Having said all that, we’re calling the exterior comparison a straight-up tie.
2017 Toyota Tundra vs. 2017 Ford F-150: Interior Comparison
The 2017 Ford F-150 offers more front and rear headroom than the 2017 Toyota Tundra. Tundra counters this by providing more rear legroom than the F-150. The differences in interior dimensions between the two amount to two inches or less, so they basically offset each other. The story changes dramatically, however, when reviewing interior equipment. The 2017 Toyota Tundra comes standard with power windows, power locks, power mirrors and Bluetooth. These are an “option” on the 2017 Ford F-150 which essentially means you have to pay more to get them with the F-150. That’s not all. With the 2017 Ford F-150, cruise control is also an “option.” You read that correctly. Cruise control isn’t included as standard equipment on the 2017 F-150 like it is on the 2017 Tundra. Due to this “nickel and dime” approach with F-150’s equipment, the interior comparison segment easily goes to the 2017 Tundra.
Our Interior Comparison Verdict: Tundra.
2017 Toyota Tundra vs. 2017 Ford F-150: Technology Comparison
The 2017 Tundra and 2017 Ford F-150 stack up well against each other in the available technology department. Both have large touchscreen displays inside the vehicle with their respective infotainment systems. Both trucks also have advanced technological safety packages, as well. Once again, however, the 2017 F-150 charges extra for tech features that you get standard with the 2017 Tundra. For example: the 2017 Tundra comes with Bluetooth, MP3 player, keyless entry, backup camera and other features included. This equipment is “optional” with the 2017 Ford F-150 which, of course, means you have to pay extra for them. Technology goes to the 2017 Toyota Tundra due to all the standard features included with the truck.
2017 Toyota Tundra vs. 2017 Ford F-150: Who is the True Full-Size truck Titan?
If you are surprised by the results of our comparison, you’re not alone. Practically every shopper who takes the time to do the homework we did and looks at the Tundra versus the F-150 comes away surprised at how much of a better value the Tundra is. Even more shocking is when you consider these additional facts:
- Tundra costs significantly less than F-150
- Tundra offers more horsepower than F-150
- Tundra provides much more towing capacity than F-150.
The 2017 Ford F-150 is a high-quality truck, but when compared with the 2017 Toyota Tundra, it just doesn’t stack up.
